Vision
This section aims to show you what our vision for Christ Church Derby is.
Where's the church going to be?
The church is going to be in Derby, UK. Derby is a growing city with a population of over 230,000 and is allegedly the fastest growing city in England and that feels right when you see the amount of new builds going up in the city centre and the enormous disruption building the new inner city ring road is causing. The city has also just opened a massive shopping complex and is spending more money revamping the riverside by building a new restaurant/casino complex.
But in spite of all the city renovation and human progress, Derby is still a city in great need of the gospel.
We feel that there is a massive need for more gospel centred churches in the city centre, which is why we hope to rent a building in the west side of the city, near Friar Gate. We’ll be physically located in the west side of the city and some of our ministries will no doubt be aimed to reaching that part of the city, but we also want to be a church for the whole city. Rather than mark out streets to reach, we intend to see the gospel travel through natural friendships. And as we all know natural friendships are certainly not neat, not geographically at least. So in that sense our mission strategy might get quite messy; we’ll be a church for the whole city, through whatever relationships we can make.
