Series: Gospel Air
Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Prayer
Speaker: Matt Newboult Preached: Mar 16, 2011 Duration: 30:45 mins
This week we’re looking at the subject of prayer and especially what it means to pray in the light of the gospel. Gospel-driven prayer if you like. Our vision says that we want to be gospel-driven. Which means that the gospel isn’t just the bit at the start of your Christian life (the ABC), to get you into the kingdom. It’s everything. The gospel is bigger than the sinners prayer. It’s what keeps us in the kingdom (the A to Z). It’s by the grace of God that we enter the kingdom, through what Jesus did on the cross and by his grace that we remain in the kingdom, through what Jesus did on the cross.

‘The Bible is authoritative in everything it addresses, and it addresses everything.’ Cornelius Van Til
‘God lisps, as it were, with us, just as nurses are accustomed to speak to infants.’ John Calvin

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Community
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Feb 23, 2011 Duration: 30:13 mins
From the first pages of the Bible we learn that ‘It is not good for a man to be alone.’ Marriage is a primary answer to this alone-ness, but as the story continues it becomes obvious that God wants to build a whole community of people who call upon him as Father. From Old Testament Israel to the church of the New Testament, God doesn’t just save isolated individuals here, there and everywhere across the globe. He forms people into communities.

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Resurrection
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Feb 16, 2011 Duration: 22:59 mins
It is often noted that in Acts the focus of the apostles’ preaching is the resurrection rather than the cross. Leaving aside the theological debates that ensue, the question remains: do we underemphasise Christ’s resurrection? Surely it provides us with more than an apologetic argument for the truth of the gospel?

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Cross
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Feb 09, 2011 Duration: 26:31 mins
“The biblical gospel of atonement is of God satisfying himself by substituting himself for us… The concept of substitution may be said, then, to lie at the heart of both sin and salvation. For the essence of sin is man substituting himself for God, while the essence of salvation is God substituting himself for man. Man asserts himself against God and puts himself where only God deserves to be; God sacrifices himself for man and puts himself where only man deserves to be. Man claims prerogatives which belong to God alone; God accepts penalties which belong to man alone.” John Stott, Cross of Christ

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Sin
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Feb 02, 2011 Duration: 30:55 mins
Sin is vastly more serious than we realise. The aim of this ’Gospel Air’ series is not simply to understand basic doctrines, but to see where their absence from our daily consideration quenches our faithfulness and holiness. Nowhere is the gap between God’s attitude and our attitude greater than in consideration of sin.

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Jesus
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Jan 26, 2011 Duration: 25:21 mins
Who is Jesus?
Hopefully we’re pretty clear that Jesus is both man and God. This is the universal consensus across Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox believers and, together with the Trinity, is one of the few doctrines that unites the three streams.

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: God
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Jan 19, 2011 Duration: 33:40 mins
What would it look like if we woke each day remembering God? Previous generations of Christians talked about living life ‘Coram Deo’, a Latin phrase meaning ’In the presence of God’. They believed every second of their life was to be lived as if standing in God’s throne room. Given that we can’t see God, we need to be clear what kind of God we stand before in order to know how to live appropriately.

Wednesday Night Central - Breathe: Gospel
Speaker: Jonty Rhodes Preached: Jan 15, 2011 Duration: mins
It’s easy to think of the gospel as the message that gets us saved; and of course it is. It’s also easy to think of the gospel as the message to give to non-Christians; again, it is. But Paul has another use for the gospel: correcting the Galatians’ behaviour. He saw that it was possible for genuinely converted Christians to walk either in step or out of step not simply with the commandments of Jesus, but with the gospel.
